Public Service Announcement: Stop Citing Ross et al 2010 about MTurk Demographics

A group of MTurk Thought Leaders have posted a request to researchers to stop using Ross et al’s study, “Who Are The Crowdworkers”, when rationalizing/explaining the MTurk population. The reasons are (aside from the fact that it is five years old and hey, things change in five years!):

-wage information is misleading;
-nationality of worker information is misleading;
-the demographic profile and motivations of the “10%” group of Professional Turks is significantly different than new Turkers attracted to low paying tasks.

Over and out!
